We believe union membership should be accessible and affordable for every worker. It’s why our fees are some of the lowest in NSW and why your income determines your fees.

In 2024 we secured $252M in state government funding for the Fresh Start New Apprenticeship program for NSW local councils. The program is creating local jobs across the state and breathing new life into local councils and their communities.

An apprentice, trainee or cadetship is a fantastic way to learn a trade or profession, but it’s not easy. There’s a lot to learn and wages are low. Several of your union’s officials and staff got their start as local council Apprentices or have people in their lives who did.

We recognised our low fees were not low enough for Apprentices and securing the $252M in funding for Fresh Start was only the beginning.

Which is why, from August this year, there will be a new fee category for Fresh Start Apprentices. The fees will go down, but the coverage, benefits and protections will not.
