The first EA in almost 20 years at Sutherland Shire Council has been voted in by members at Sutherland Shire Council.
Underpinned by the NSW Local Government (State) Award, the new EA brings stronger protections and better conditions to Sutherland Shire Council workers.
These better protections have not come at a cost, since we negotiated and secured an MOU with council that grandfathered the strong protections already in place.
The success at Sutherland Shire Council demonstrates what workers can achieve when they unionise and actively engage with their union. The growing membership and density at Sutherland Shire Council and the election of nearly 20 delegates were major contributors to this long awaited EA.
