Outdated Position Descriptions, Growing Responsibilities
USU members working as Regulatory Support Officers at City of Parramatta Council had concerns that their position descriptions no longer reflected the work they were actually performing.
Members believed their changing responsibilities were not being properly recognised and that they were being underpaid compared to similar roles across Council.
Members Speak Up
When an initial review failed to address these concerns, members turned to their Union for support.
Working together, members and their Representatives raised the issue with Council and successfully secured a commitment to start the review process again.
A Better Process Delivers a Better Result
This time, members were actively involved throughout the process. Their feedback was heard, their concerns were considered, and the review better reflected the work they perform every day.
The outcome was a grade increase for the affected employees, recognising their changing responsibilities and improving pay parity with comparable roles across Council.
This win shows what can happen when members stand together. By speaking up and staying united, Parramatta members secured both greater recognition for their work and a better financial outcome.
