For years, Liverpool City Council workers have faced ongoing uncertainty.

They’ve endured restructures, reviews, threats of job cuts and constant instability. Despite it all, they have continued showing up every day to maintain parks, support libraries, care for children, collect waste, maintain roads and deliver the services their community relies on.

Standing Together to Protect Jobs

In 2024, Liverpool workers stopped proposals to cut around 150 jobs.

In 2026, they were forced to fight again.

Hundreds of members came together at workplace meetings and rallies, standing shoulder-to-shoulder to defend local jobs and local services.

Their collective action helped secure another important victory, with the proposed job cuts ultimately defeated.

The Fight Isn’t Over

Concerns about governance, workplace culture and the future of local services remain. More than half of surveyed staff have considered leaving Council, while a NSW Public Inquiry into Liverpool City Council remains ongoing.

Workers know that stable workplaces help deliver better services for residents.

Stand With Liverpool Workers

That’s why the USU has launched a petition to the NSW Parliament calling for safe and respectful workplaces, properly resourced services, financial responsibility and leadership that delivers for the Liverpool community.

Liverpool workers have spent years standing up for their community.

Now they’re asking the community to stand with them.
