The USU has achieved a significant win for members at Slater & Gordon, with the firm finally agreeing to pass on extended leave entitlements on Parental Leave to 26 weeks, and the introduction of Reproductive Health leave to all non-EBA covered employees across the firm.
These entitlements were won by the USU/ASU in the last round of bargaining in early 2025, with the firm committing at the time to pass on these entitlements to non-EBA staff but refusing to act on this since the implementation of the new EBA.
The USU, along with our ASU comrades in QLD, Victoria, and WA, has been fighting for this since February 2025, with pressure consistently placed on the firm by our organisers and delegates and a campaign run to shame the firm into upholding its commitments, including threats to run a majority support determination for a separate EBA to cover Associates and Senior Associates. An email sent to all members nation-wide by all ASU branches titled “New Year, Same Slaters” attracting considerable attention and caused alarm to the firm, who quickly changed their tune and begun to consult with the union on implementing the entitlements.
The USU/ASU is proud of this win, and this will give us significant momentum in building towards a new EBA next year that seeks to cover all staff across the firm. The win is a testament to the hard work of our delegates across all offices in NSW and nation-wide!
