Warren (Croc) Donnelly

USU Member Warren (Croc) Donnelly recently underwent a successful cataract surgery, which significantly improved his vision. Eager to return to his routine, he came back to work with optimism.

Upon his arrival, his Manager took him aside for a chat, during which Warren submitted his medical certificate and a clearance note from his surgeon confirming he was fit to resume work. He then resumed his duties operating the Jet patcher. However, after their discussion, Warren unexpectedly received a formal request to attend a medical assessment to evaluate not only his eyesight but also his cognitive abilities and overall fitness for his role. This request left Warren feeling somewhat puzzled, as he had just received clearance from his doctor to return to work.

The outdoor USU Delegate directed his USU member to his USU Organiser, who then arranged a meeting. During this meeting, the USU Organiser reviewed the letter, she found it was missing a date, leaving ambiguity about when the medical assessment was to be completed and whether the USU member needed to fulfil his work duties.

Upon arriving at the Byron Works Depot, the USU member met the Acting Manager, who told him he was deemed unfit for work. The manager expressed uncertainty about what tasks he could perform for the day, particularly clarifying that he would not be allowed to operate the jet patcher or drive a ute. In response, the USU Organiser accompanied the USU member to the Byron Works Depot to meet with the Acting Manager and discuss next steps. The USU Organiser firmly informed the Acting Manager that the USU member will be paid for the day, he will visit his general practitioner to obtain a Fit for Work clearance and will return to normal duties the next day. The Acting Manager agreed.

USU Member Warren thanked the USU for its assistance. He conveyed joy and relief at being back in the workplace, ready to resume his responsibilities.
