One of the most important parts of being a union organiser is building relationships. Every week, organisers are out visiting depots, offices, contact centres, and worksites, speaking directly with members and workers about the issues that matter most to them.
These site visits are about more than resolving workplace concerns. They provide an opportunity to listen, understand local issues, and build strong working relationships with both members and employers. Open communication and respectful engagement can often help address concerns early and create better outcomes for everyone.
Just as importantly, workplace conversations help strengthen our union. Many members join because a colleague they trust took the time to share their experience and explain the benefits of standing together.
A simple conversation in the lunchroom, at a toolbox talk or over a coffee can make all the difference.
As we move towards important bargaining discussions and workplace changes across the Energy & Utilities sector, maintaining strong workplace relationships and growing our membership remains critical. Every new member strengthens our collective voice and helps ensure workers have a seat at the table when decisions are being made.
Strong unions are built through connection – connection between members, delegates, organisers, and employers. By continuing to engage with one another, have meaningful conversations and support our colleagues, we can build stronger workplaces and achieve better outcomes for all.
Because when workers stand together, we are stronger.
