Once again we had an outstanding group of delegates nominated for Delegate of the Year. As General Secretary Graeme Kelly told conference “Every delegate deserves an Award.”
This year’s Delegate of the Year was awarded to Gerard Bryant, Forbes Shire Council from the Central West Branch.
Gerard’s outstanding nomination read:
Gerard Bryant has been a USU member for 38 years and a delegate at Forbes Shire Council for more than 10 years. He is also a valued and respected member of the Central West Committee of Management, where he has contributed to the branch for around seven years.
Gerard is highly respected across the workplace by members, non-members and management. His calm, considered approach gives members confidence, particularly during difficult workplace matters. Over the past year, he has played an important role in representing members through Forbes Shire Council’s organisational and wage restructures, ensuring proper processes were followed and members’ interests remained central.
Gerard has strong knowledge of the Award and consultative processes and uses this experience to guide other workplace activists. He represents staff on the local Consultative Committee and works closely with the Central West Organiser on workplace mapping and issue resolution. His efforts have contributed to union membership levels of more than 98% across the outdoor workforce.
