With Enterprise Agreement (EA) bargaining on the horizon across the energy and utilities sector, now is the time for workers to stand together and make sure their voices are heard.

EA bargaining is about more than negotiating pay. It can affect working conditions, job security, hours of work, allowances, flexibility, consultation, redundancy provisions and many other rights and benefits that workers rely on.

The stronger the membership, the stronger the bargaining position

Every new member strengthens the collective voice of the workforce. When a union can demonstrate strong membership and engagement across a workplace, it sends a clear message to the employer: employees are organised, informed and prepared to have a say in their future.

This is why recruitment matters.

If you know a colleague who isn’t a USU member, have a conversation with them. Explain what the union does, encourage them to get involved and invite them to join. You don’t need to be an expert — sometimes simply saying“Have you thought about joining the union?” is enough to start the conversation.

Now is the time to get organised

The best time to build union strength isn’t after bargaining has started — it’s before it begins.

The more members we have, the more workers we can represent, the more voices we can bring to the table and the greater our ability to fight for fair outcomes.

One member can make a difference. A united workforce can make change.

If you’re already a member, ask yourself: who can I bring into the union this week?
