When we found out that Newcastle City Council was looking at outsourcing waste services, we reached out to you, your fellow Council workers, and local community members, to have your say on whether public services should be put in private hands.
Hundreds of you responded, emphatically, against privatisation.
More than 98% of respondents said they were against the proposed contracting, and agreed that privatisation is never a good thing for local communities.
As a result of the pressure applied, Council has confirmed that the privatisation of your waste services is now off the table, and all associated local jobs are secure.
This is a huge win, and a reminder of the power we have to impact decision makers when we speak up as one!
