
The United Services Union loves Public Libraries and to celebrate our hard working library USU members, Library Lovers Day-14th February – is a day to recognise the work library assistants, library technicians, and librarians bring to their communities in New South Wales.
Since its inception in 2006 by the State Library of New South Wales, Library Lovers’ Day has evolved significantly, reflecting the changing landscape of libraries. This annual celebration, now supported by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), has seen remarkable growth in both participation and visibility.
Over the years, Library Lovers’ Day has attracted media interest, resulting in approximately 200 articles. Library Lovers Day highlights the vital importance of libraries in fostering literacy, providing resources, and promoting community engagement. The event has sparked considerable activity across social media platforms, with nearly 190,000 engagements. This engagement showcases how individuals share their affection for books, reading, and the invaluable services libraries provide.
Library Lovers’ Day is widely recognised as a beloved occasion by libraries across New South Wales. It unites book lovers from diverse backgrounds—students, educators, families, and avid readers—fostering a collective appreciation for libraries as essential hubs of knowledge, culture, and community. The event serves not only to celebrate literature but also to reinforce the critical role that libraries and librarians play in enriching lives and fostering a love for reading.
