For the first time in 13 years, members at TabCorp Granville will get to have a say on improving their workplace conditions and pay, with TabCorp finally commencing bargaining for a new agreement to replace the long expired 2013 agreement. This has come after 2 years of pressure from the USU through advocacy from organisers and delegates for the site.
Previous efforts to negotiate a replacement agreement in 2016, 2019, and 2022 were unsuccessful. These negotiations principally stalled due to Tabcorp’s insistence that the Retail Award be used as the relevant comparator for the purposes of assessing compliance with the Better Off Overall Test (BOOT), rather than the Clerks Award, which provides more generous entitlements for shift work. Following a change in senior management in 2024, Tabcorp revised its position after sustained advocacy by the United Workers’ Union. As a result, and notwithstanding further delays attributable to site restructures, the parties are now positioned to recommence negotiations.
The USU will be running information sessions to all members at TabCorp Granville over the coming weeks to explain the EBA process and begin developing the log of claims. All members will be welcome to join the log of claims committee.
We hope to see significant membership growth at TabCorp through the EBA negotiations, with our new recruitment officer joining USU Officials for upcoming site visits.
