Ten News report: Graeme Kelly talks to Ten news about Members of Parliament Staff wages

While the federal government attacks unions it is revealed that Turnbull’s Chief of Staff is paid over $600,000 per year – more than the PM himself, with the Government getting around its own 2% wages cap. Meanwhile, as USU General Secretary Graeme Kelly points out, staff members in electorate offices across the country who have gone without a pay rise for two years have started voting on a new enterprise agreement that limits annual wage increases to 2 per cent. The union is urging a NO vote.

Last week the Prime Minister announced the signing of the MOU for the Western Sydney City Deal with the NSW Government, but in doing so has left local councils out of the equation. This goes against the grain of what a City Deal is supposed to achieve. City Deals provide an opportunity for governments, in particular local governments, to work together and encourage the economic growth of a region.

Liberal Govt moves to cut Paid Parental Leave again

On Thursday 20 October 2016 the Liberal Government again introduced legislation to cut government funded pay parental leave. The Government’s previous attempts to cut the pay of parents after the birth of their child have been rejected by the Senate, however, they are now trying again.
