USU members at an inner-city council have negotiated a trial expansion of the Adverse 2 allowance to all parks and gardens staff.
This is an excellent outcome that recognises some of the filthy conditions that parks and gardens staff routinely face.
The win comes after members came together to dispute the council’s restricted application of the allowance.
The group was prepared to arbitrate the matter in the Industrial Relations Commission, but in negotiation, members voted to endorse a trial they are confident that any performance measurements will prove to management that the adverse 2 should be paid to staff who deal with real filth on a daily basis.
How the Trial Will Work
Members will be negotiating performance measurements over the coming months to introduce the allowance in the new year. The trial will assess those measurements to determine the permanent application of the allowance on a pro-rata basis.
