“It is time for younger members to step forward and continue the fight for fair rights and working conditions” says newly appointed workplace delegate Tim Myers, when asked why he became a workplace delegate.

“The previous generations of members and delegates fought hard to secure the rights we enjoy today, it’s now our responsibility to protect those gains and ensure they’re not eroded.”

Tim may be new delegate, but he has a solid foundation of experience advocating for his fellow workers to build on.

Based in Gundagai, Tim’s appointment represents the next generation of union leadership. This new generation is focused on renewal, while maintaining the strong traditions of union representation.

Tim is optimistic about the future of unionism and sees his appointment as part of the trend across regional councils of younger union members taking up the fight to keep hard-won conditions and rights alive.

Growing the union’s membership, building resilience and ensuring continuity are the three main focus points for Tim as he develops his delegate skills.

The USU welcomes Tim and can’t wait to see what he achieves as a workplace delegate at Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council.
