The United Services Union (USU) is proud to celebrate another major victory for our members at Newcastle City Council following the successful in-house tender for Parking Services (Meters) and PCI compliance changes.
When the City of Newcastle announced a competitive tender process for the provision and maintenance of parking meter infrastructure, the USU raised strong concerns about job security and the future of the Parking Technician team. Thanks to the strong provisions in the Enterprise Agreement and the proactive involvement of the USU, our members were empowered to submit an in-house bid — and won!
On 17 September 2025, the Council confirmed that the in-house tender submitted by the Parking Technician team was officially successful. This outcome means that these critical services will remain in-house, safeguarding jobs and ensuring continuity for the community of quality public-run service delivery.
USU Representatives played a pivotal role throughout the process, working constructively with Council to ensure transparency, fairness, and support for the members. Their efforts demonstrate the power of union representation. When we stand together, we achieve outcomes that protect jobs and strengthen workplace rights.
This win is more than just a tender result, it’s a testament to collaboration, quality public services and the strength of USU advocacy. Over the next 6–9 months, changes will be implemented, and the USU will continue to work closely with Council and members to ensure a smooth transition.
This success shows what can be achieved when workers have a voice and a union that is by your side. Congratulations to our Parking Technician team members and all involved.
