On 26 August 2016 USU Officials held a sleep-out to raise money and awareness.
In an effort to raise awareness and to help fund the fight against homelessness, on the 26th of August the United Service Union held a ‘sleep out’ in the western suburbs of Sydney.
There are more than 100,000 homeless people in Australia on any given night. The vast majority of these people are under the age of 35, and are increasingly female. In New South Wales alone there are nearly 30,000 people who experience homelessness, the most of any state in the Country.
While the conditions we faced paled in comparison to those faced on a nightly basis by those people experiencing homelessness, the sleepout allowed the USU to raise more than $13,000 which will go directly to Mission Australia and the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Special thanks goes to all the members, delegates, officials, and friends and family members who helped by donating to this very worthwhile cause.
USU Sleepout raffle winners:
1st Prize: K Hua (Beauty Product Prize Pack)
2nd Prize: J Conomos (Case of Hahn Premium Beer)
3rd Prize: M Cunningham (2 Candles from Tarot Avenue Candles)
4th Prize: G Pinter (USU Golf Umbrella)
5th Prize: J Bertoncelj (USU Golf Umbrella)
Thank you to everyone who bought tickets in the raffle!
