In July I wrote to members regarding the great victory for Local Government workers at the ALP National Conference.

In a great win for local government and its workers the Federal Government announced a new “Federation Compact” which includes a firm commitment to significantly increase Financial Assistance Grants to Local Government.

Today, Treasurer Ross Crawford (above right) met with Prime Minister Albanese at Parliament House in Canberra, joining other union leaders and Federal Ministers, in holding discussions regarding plans for the new Federal Funding for the 538 councils across Australia.

The USU has continued to pursue this outcome over the past 8 years and today we heard the very strong commitment from Prime Minister Albanese on how we will achieve this outcome.

This funding will ensure the jobs of the future in Local Government and include the investment in apprentices across the local government sector.

I am so proud of this achievement for our members – now and into the future, and once again thank the Albanese Government for this firm commitment to the future. I look forward to continued talks with the government.
