In January USU members celebrated Habib Younis retirement. Celebrating 44 years of dedication and mentorship at Parramatta Council, USU General Secretary Graeme Kelly, OAM, attended to honour Habib’s contributions and wish him well in his retirement from Parramatta Council.
We thank you, Habib, for your contribution to the industry and for your remarkable 44 years as a USU member. Your legacy lives on through the 100 trades you’ve trained, impacting generations to come.
Habib is very well loved with members and delegates describing him as the “backbone of the workshop”. And the heart and soul of both the old Morton Street depot and here at the ROC.
He trained and mentored new starters and apprentices in the workshop, and was a role model to them as is the way of long serving Council workers.
When we asked for memories and stories about Habib, we often got a chuckle in return. Let’s just say that Habib’s cheeky sense of humour will be well remembered by all.
Every member speaks of his kind, positive nature – giving the shirt off his back to help anyone who asked, who was always there making time to listen.
“Habib you will be greatly missed by many at Parramatta Council and our Union, and we wish you and your beloved wife and family all the best.”
