Following significant action at Central Coast Council USU members have collectively been awarded over $100,000 in back pay.
Significant industrial activities have been ongoing for several months regarding a grievance/dispute regarding Maintenance Team Leaders. Seven USU members had their position evaluated which resulted in Band 3 Level 3 outcome – the Council then disputed its own job evaluation outcome.
This subsequently led to proceedings before the New South Wales Industrial Relations Commission, including several conciliations and the commencement of arbitration. The matter was scheduled for a hearing on the 6th and 7th of February; however, the Commissioner issued a strong verbal recommendation on the 31st of January, in the interest of resolving the matter.
An in-principal agreement has been achieved for these USU members with over $100,000 being back paid to these members collectively. While the overall prospects of arbitration may have been limited, the collective strength of the USU members has ensured that a good outcome has been achieved without a formal decision. Discussions are currently underway to formally resolve the associated documentation.
