The USU received a call from Ausgrid management yesterday (28/5) and was advised of Ausgrid’s intention to cut more jobs as a result of the most recent AER Determination.

The estimated job cuts are between 780 and 880 and is broken down like this:

By end of the calendar year 2019:

  • Field Services: 140 – 180;
  • Asset Management: 38 – 52;
  • Program Delivery: 70 – 86;
  • Customer: 10 – 14;
  • People & Transformation: 14 – 24;
  • Strategy, Regulation & Finance: 13 – 20; and
  • Safety: Nil.

Total = 285 – 376
FY ’20 – ’21 – Nil
FYs ’21 – ’23 – 400 – 500.

This news is proof positive that the NSW Government’s agenda of privatising its natural monopoly assets is a complete failure that puts further strain on an already overwhelmed Ausgrid network that is already subject to regular load shedding in areas from Thornleigh to Rozelle to Avoca.

Your Union and Ausgrid (independently of each other) have contacted the Australian Council of Trade Unions (‘ACTU’) and advised them of Ausgrid’s latest plans.  Your union and the ACTU are actively seeking meetings with various Ausgrid stakeholders  – members will be advised as to when those meetings are taking place and outcomes arising out of them.
