USU Officials Josh and Craig recently travelled across Western NSW, visiting members and worksites at NGM Group, Essential Energy, TransGrid, NSW Ambulance NRMA and REX Airlines. The visits were part of the Union’s ongoing commitment to ensuring our members’ voices are heard, their issues addressed, and their workplaces supported.

From Canberra to Yass, to Cowra to Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo and Parkes, Josh and Craig engaged with members in meaningful conversations about the matters that affect them most in their day-to-day lives. From rosters and work-life balance, to pay rates, allowances, staffing levels and health and safety concerns, members were able to speak openly about the challenges they face and the improvements they want to see in their workplaces.

Enterprise Agreement discussions formed a key part of the site visits. Chats with NGM Group employees about the new implementation of the Enterprise Agreement, ensuring members understood the gains won and the protections secured. TransGrid, the focus was on progressing bargaining claims, protecting conditions, and pushing for fair pay outcomes. NSW Ambulance members raised critical issues around fatigue management and workload, while Essential Energy Members members highlighted the importance of stronger recognition for the work they perform on the frontline of community support.

Rex-Airlines Contact Centre members were just as delighted to see the USU as they are tied up in negotiations. Wanting a fair day’s work, for a fair day’s wage and better workplace conditions particularly around holiday rates of pay.

These conversations also created opportunities to promote and recruit new USU members. Building a stronger union presence in regional areas ensures that workers are never isolated and always have support when they need it most.

For Josh and Craig, the visits reinforced just how important the Union is to members across Western NSW. Every conversation highlights the value of standing together. Members know the Union has their back, and they are proud to be part of the USU
