The USU is in receipt of the Broderick Report into bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct within the NSW State Parliament. The issues raised in the report go to our members’ fundamental right to be provided a safe working environment and clearly demonstrate failures in this regard on many fronts.
Members of Parliament Staff spend long periods of time away from family and friends, often missing social engagements because of their dedication to their roles and a functioning Parliament – this dedication should never be taken as consent to bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct.
The USU welcomes the recommendations of the report and looks forward to working with our members and Parliament stakeholders in ensuring they are implemented. Further, we applaud the Members of Parliament Staff for finding the courage to confront these issues by providing their evidence that resulted in these recommendations.
