A mentor to many, a tireless advocate for her fellow workers and an active member of her local community who volunteers hours of her time each week – it’s no surprise to anyone who knows Kate that she is our 2025 New Gen Committee and Vision Super Mentor of the Year.
Much like her work for the union, her mentoring of young apprentices, trainees and cadets has never slowed down – not even when council started announcing plans to restructure due to significant amounts of debt.
Kate’s nominators spoke very highly of her and had compelling evidence to support their nomination, but we wanted to include the following three quotes here:
Kate is a natural-born mentor to all people she interacts with. If you have had the pleasure of working with her, you will appreciate that her developed communication style is educational and often provides clarity and strategy to resolve the problem at hand. She is also an incredibly supportive person, and empowers people to take the necessary steps to improve outcomes for themselves.
Kate is an inspiration to all she knows personally and professionally. She is extremely knowledgeable, respectful, and thoughtful towards other colleagues and members of the community and works tirelessly, voluntarily giving her time towards people within the workplace as well as giving time as a volunteer within the community.
Kate is a well-respected Union Delegate throughout Council, who fights for the rights of USU members. She fosters a welcoming and accepting culture for all members at Shoalhaven City Council. Kate works to promote employee rights to all levels of staff and collaborates closely with young members to build knowledge and awareness of the USU and the important role it plays at Council.
Kate wasn’t able to attend conference this year, so one of her fellow workplace delegates, Owen Dredge, collected Kate’s award on her behalf.
Congratulations, Kate and thank you for everything that you do!
