For months, bulk litter staff at Penrith Council had been forced to store deceased animals in a faulty fridge. This is a serious biohazard for both workers and the community.
Despite repeated promises, management failed to act.
USU delegates escalated the issue, inviting management to a meeting and warning that there’s potential need for staff to stop unsafe work under the WHS Act if nothing changed. Within a week, the fridge was replaced.
This is the power of union delegates on the ground. When members stand together and demand safe conditions, action happens.
We congratulate our Penrith members for standing strong and protecting both their workplace and community.
