On Wednesday 25 October 2017 USU Delegates, Health and Safety Representatives, and a USU Industrial Officer met with Greg Maddaford a Senior Inspector of Safework NSW.
The meeting was arranged to discuss ongoing issues at Council concerning the management and handling of asbestos.
The meeting was productive, with the Safework Inspector taking the members concerns directly to Council management after the meeting.
In addition, the USU has recently written to Council outlining 166 concerns that members have had regarding asbestos in the workplace and we understand that Safework NSW have advised the Council to individually respond to the Union’s concerns.
The USU looks forward to working with Safework NSW and the Council over the coming weeks to ensure that the safety of staff and the community is the primary concern in dealing with this issue.
