As the last USU basic training dates for the year were fast approaching, members from Port Macquarie Hastings Council, Newcastle Council, Kempsey Shire Council and Lismore Shire Council were keen to put their hands up to become USU Delegates.
Five members from Port Macquarie Hastings Council, ranging from ages 30-55, both male and female from different work areas underwent the USU Delegate training at the Union’s Port Macquarie office on the 20th and 21st of November, and from all reports the training was a massive success, with all the (now) Delegates feeling inspired and motivated to achieve positive outcomes for the USU members at their Councils.
Since the training, the new USU Delegates have made themselves available to represent their fellow USU members and are looking forward to demonstrating their abilities and in doing so are showcasing the confidence that the USU basic training instils in our Delegates. We have since also had three other members sign up to complete the training for next year and have had several other USU members make enquiries. The USU Delegates structure at PMHC, whilst already strong, is only becoming stronger, and by having these new USU
Delegates active in the workplace we can only expect our USU membership to increase as new staff are more exposed to the personal benefits and the industrial strength that our union has to offer.
