The New England Weeds County Council (N.E.W.C.C.) comprises Walcha, Uralla, Armidale and Glen Innes Councils. The N.E.W.C.C was put under Administration in June 2024.
The United Services Union has been working with our members at N.E.W.C.C. by protecting their terms and conditions as they transfer into their new structures within the four Councils which made up the previous organisation.
At this point staff have all had the positions they hold identified to be placed within the Councils of which they will be transferred into.
Walcha Shire Council has now called for applications to fill a vacant position of biosecurity officer as a result of a staff member whose position was allocated to Council choosing to leave.
The Union is now focusing on the issue of staff not having their annual salary assessments in accordance with their Award rights and in most cases, we believe those members will be owed backpay.
The USU is of the understanding that the NSW Minister for Local Government will be signing off on the proclamation which will finalise the transfers sometime at the end of May, this will see the winding up of the New England Weeds County Council and all its staff and equipment will be divided up and allocated between Walcha, Uralla, Armidale and Glen Innes Councils.
It has been a hard road for the staff of N.E.W.C.C, in not knowing where this journey was going to take them back in June 2024, when N.E.W.C.C, was placed under Administration, and the staff believe that the advice assistance and outcome they have received as a result of the Union’s efforts is a good reason to belong to the USU, as it has helped and supported them through this process and they believe that being members of the USU has made sure they got a fair deal.
