On Friday, 21 May 2021, the USU/ASU met with Qantas Freight and AAE management to discuss the next steps in the Freight Restructure. We have the following updates for members.

Exit Dates

We told management that members need certainty about their exit date so that they can find new employment.

Management will provide us with the exit dates for employees who’ve accepted VR in each port late next week. We expect a response from the company on Wednesday, 26 or Thursday 27 May.

Implementation

The company has trialled the new structure in Sydney T3. The structure will be implemented next in Sydney T1 (27 May) and T2 (7 June). Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth will follow after the Sydney implementation.

Management conceded that training of Ops Coordinators has been too slow. They’ve committed to speeding up training to make sure Ops Coordinators are ready to take up their new roles when the system is implemented.

Don’t make yourself suffer for the company’s mistakes!

The USU/ASU will be monitoring implementation to make sure that it is done safely and with minimal impact on members. We need you to speak to your organiser if you are concerned about workloads or other safety issues. Together, we can make sure that the company addresses safety and workloads.
