USU/ASU members will have awoken to news this morning that Virgin Australia has taken the decision to halt trading and there is ongoing speculation about a federal government bail out of the airline. We know that the airline has been struggling for some time, so this is serious.
Hornsby Council is currently exploring the possibility of voluntary leave arrangements for staff in order to deal with the COVID-19 crisis. Based on feedback from members it appears that these proposals were causing uncertainty and anxiety amongst members.

The federal government has now extended its childcare funding to council-run services. This follows the announcement this morning that the NSW government was ensuring the continued operation of 260 council-run childcare centres with its own crisis package.
