The USU Organiser Danielle Kelly was contacted recently by a USU member from the Metford Workshop who had concerns regarding an application to take their leave at half pay through the upcoming easter period. Our USU member had lodged the application in October 2024 which was approved at that time. Council advised that they were no longer honouring the pre-approval for the upcoming leave.
An initial Grievance meeting was held, and a Dispute was lodged with the Industrial Relations Commission after no resolution being reached at the initial meeting and the fast-approaching leave for our USU member.
Council agreed before the Commission to honour our USU member’s pre-approved leave application at half pay and to avoid ambiguity in future leave application processes, Council’s Scheduled Leave Application Form has now been amended to require Manager level approval for annual leave or long service leave at half pay.
