In 2023, Campbelltown Council, in negotiation with your Union, made an adjustment to its salary system which saw all grades have an increase above the Award increase to assist with cost-of-living pressures. In 2024, Council recognised that more could be done and once again approached the USU.
In April 2024, most staff received an additional 2% increase. To afford this, it was necessary for Council to move to fortnightly pay. Your Union recognised the financial strain and potential inequality members may experience and secured additional options.
Through advocacy and negotiation efforts, these positive outcomes were achieved:
- Secured salary increases above the Award for all grades in response to the cost-of-living crisis.
- Negotiated a 2% increase for the majority of staff in April 2024.
- Advocated for employees’ option to receive an extra week’s pay with the transition to a fortnightly pay schedule.
- Ensured employees could retain extra pay without repayment if they stayed with the Council for 3 years.
- Advocated for exemptions from repayment for employees in case of retirement.
- Initiated a review of market premium positions, resulting in upgrades for many roles.
- Influenced changes to the Manager’s Salary System to promote fairness and equity.
- Intervened to rectify instances of inequality for a member, showcasing commitment to employee rights.
We commend Campbelltown Council for taking proactive steps to improve employees’ conditions.
