City of Sydney staff who’ve reached the top of their salary band are missing out – USU members are campaigning to change that.

Following the success of the recent City of Sydney Award negotiations, the USU is now campaigning to deliver fair recognition for staff at the top of their salary band.

Right now, employees who’ve reached the top of their band don’t receive any financial recognition for meeting expectations in their annual performance reviews.

That means even if they’ve done a great job all year, there’s no pay increase and no bonus, just a pat on the back.

In 2024, 72% of staff received a performance-based pay rise, but 28% who were at the top of their band got nothing, even if their performance review was positive. That number will only grow as more staff reach the top of their pay scale.

The USU says that’s not fair and members agree.

Petition Gathers Over 500 Signatures (And Counting)!

To support the campaign, USU officials and delegates have been visiting council sites, talking with staff, and collecting signatures on a petition calling for fair bonus payments. Members have also had the option to sign online.

The petition will remain open until 13 June 2025, with the goal of showing City of Sydney management that this is a growing issue that needs action.
