The United Services Union (USU) is proud to announce the commencement of negotiations for a new City of Newcastle Enterprise Agreement. Representing all USU members, we are dedicated to improving wages and conditions, continuing our legacy of over 100 years of service at the City of Newcastle.

Formal negotiations kicked-off on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, following the successful interest-based discussions that resolved the 2019 and 2023 agreements. This collaborative approach ensures that all parties work together to achieve the best outcomes for our members.

A special mention goes to the USU delegates who continually volunteer their time and energy to collectively represent their fellow USU members and ensure a better workplace for all.

Last November, we supported a joint survey across the City of Newcastle to identify key items of interest. We extend our thanks to all members who took the time to complete the survey. Your input is invaluable, and we have carefully reviewed the results to prioritise the key concerns raised.

Top issues of interest from the Survey:

  • Increases to the current employer superannuation contributions
  • Wage increases
  • Access to more flexible working arrangements, including a four-day week proposal
  • Harmonisation of a 35-hour work week for all workers
  • Better access to career and development opportunities

Several other items have also been captured in distinct areas of the Council to ensure all workers benefit from the collective efforts of the USU.

The USU is YOUR collective voice at the City of Newcastle, ensuring that ALL workers’ voices are heard. Together, we can achieve great things through collective action!

We will keep our vast membership informed and updated on the progress of negotiations for the new agreement. Mass USU member meetings will be held throughout the process to ensure transparency and involvement.

Remember: Only Union members will have a vote to determine the direction of the new Enterprise Agreement. Without Union support and agreement, a new EA cannot be resolved.

USU Membership Action: Do you know any colleagues who are not yet members of the USU? Share this information with them and remind them of the benefits of being part of the USU!
