The United Services Union continues its campaign to win Local Government Early Childhood Educators and staff the pay increase they deserve.
As you may know, the Federal Government introduced a fund to increase the pay of ECEC workers. The fund was introduced to retain and attract workers to this critical industry and is available over the next two years. Initially only for federal employers, that grant was extended to local government ECEC after lobbying from the United Services Union.
Unfortunately, not every ECEC worker in Local Government is going to receive this long overdue recognition!
Some councils have yet to sign up to the grant meaning workers have been denied the pay increase available and ready to take.
Councils must apply to receive this payment. At this stage approximately only 60% of eligible local councils in NSW have signed up to increase their ECEC workers’ wages, leaving out large numbers of committed workers across the state.
The USU has a dedicated campaign team working to empower members and get councils to sign on to this scheme. In the coming weeks, organisers will be visiting centres across NSW to speak to workers and councils about the payment.
The campaign team is also closely monitoring the implementation of the pay increases in councils that have already opted in to the scheme. Compliance with the Federal funding is a key focus for the USU, and we are committed to holding councils accountable and ensuring every LG ECEC worker gets what they deserve.
To strengthen this campaign, we need your voice. Whether your council has signed on or not, your involvement is critical in securing this win for all ECEC workers. Speak to your colleagues, spread the word, stay engaged, and support the growth of your union.
Together, we can make a difference and ensure that ECEC workers receive fair pay for their essential work.
