The ASU attended a meeting with Virgin earlier this week about recent announcements regarding redundancies in Virgins Corporate and Head Office teams.

Virgin has announced 350 redundancies at its Corporate and Head Office in Brisbane. We received a briefing from the Company confirming that redundancies are being considered for the following Award covered Divisions: Group Finance; Financial Planning & Analysis; Treasury; IT; Direct Sales; Direct and B2B Sales; Network & Revenue Management; Customer & Product; and, Velocity.

We have sought more detailed advice from Virgin about the proposed consultation and selection process for all of the above arrears.

The ASU expects Virgin to ensure that you can be properly represented throughout the redundancy process. Virgin are also obligated to give genuine consideration to all staff feedback on their proposals and find ways to mitigate the impact of any final decision to the staff concerned, as well as to the staff who remain working for Virgin.

We know this is a very stressful time, do not hesitate to seek assistance if you need it. Organisations like Lifeline 131114 or Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 are available if needed.

Next Steps

We will be meeting with Virgin again next Monday, 8 February 2021. If you have been notified about changes that will affect you and your team please contact your local interim USU Organiser Mick Jones at mjones@usu.org.au for assistance.

Pass this onto your colleagues who aren’t in the union. If we work together, we can save jobs and build a better workplace.
