At the Cumberland Council meeting of 5 October 2016 a report titled ‘Strategic Waste Options – Briefing Paper 2016’ was tabled. The purpose of the paper was to “report on possible strategies to implement an effective and efficient waste service.” Council, AKA Mr Viv May – Administrator, resolved to form a Working Group. The working group has been formed and has been advised that the matter will be discussed and, in Mr May’s opinion, a decision will be made at the December Council meeting.
What is YOUR Union doing?
The USU intervened in this matter as soon as we were made aware of the situation. USU Organiser Holly Murrell and other key Officials are playing an active role in the working group.
The Union has made a financial commitment and engaged a consultant to review both the Council’s current position as outlined in their report, as well as the on-the-ground situation in waste services.
It is planned that the findings from this report will be provided to management prior to the December Council meeting.
