As you are aware the United Services Union has commenced the Council Services by Council Workers campaign. So far we have written to every council in NSW seeking details of what services they are contracting, which companies they are using, and details of the work health and safety checks that have been conducted to ensure contractors and councils are fulfilling their obligations under the Act.
So far (as at 30 July 2021) we have had mixed responses from each council. Some councils have been willing to work through the union’s requests, others have proven the union’s concerns and have refused to provide the information that has been sought, reinforcing the fact that several councils have something to hide while they reinforce the contracting out of local government work.
