Our great winners from 2020
Samantha Street has been awarded the 2020 USU New Gen Committee Apprentice / Trainee of the Year. Samantha is a Trainee Biosecurity Officer from Forbes Shire Council.
Samantha has been recognised not just for her outstanding application to her traineeship but also for being an outstanding young Union member.
Information gathered by her nominators truly supports Samantha’s nomination and recognition:
“Sam is an outstanding example of an achiever – she has grasped her role with flair; has been a committed member of the USU team here in Forbes and I believe a worthy nominee for Trainee of the Year 2020.”
“It was a huge move for Sam to relocate from her home City of Newcastle to join our Council, but she straight away made herself known and assisted community groups, volunteering her services. Sam’s sunny personality also makes her a popular work colleague and she puts 100% into all that she does.”
“Sam is respected by the farming community when dealing with them, and her fellow employees.”
Without positive influences of genuine mentors in the workplace, an Apprentice/Trainee award would not be possible. In 2020 we recognise USU New Gen Committee Mentor of the Year, Erin Martin, a Horticulturist, from Wollongong City Council.
While undertaking this key role in Council, Erin has selflessly continued to mentor and develop many apprentices over the years at Wollongong. Information gathered by her nominators truly support Erin being a commendable recipient:
“Erin constantly provides support and guidance to junior and new members of staff. She is always willing to help whether it be technical job support or organisational guidance. She is admired by her peers due to her wide knowledge base and eagerness to help others.”
“She is extremely knowledgeable and is very forthcoming with answers to any questions or queries they may have concerning propagation techniques, general maintenance, administrative duties, or the general daily running of the nursery.”
“As an apprentice and new person on the block Erin has made me and all the other trainees and apprentices feel very welcome and she will go above and beyond to give you advice on any tasks that you may be doing at the time.”
