On Thursday, 22 October 2020 the Union’s Conference Delegates met via Zoom for our Conference in Council Session.
2020 has been a difficult year, however it has not stopped our Conference in Council Session. It certainly looked different as our photo gallery shows however the important aspects of Conference remained the same. The USU takes our commitment to Conference seriously and appreciated the support we received from Conference Delegates and guest speakers.
In order to practice safe social distancing and to prevent any spread of Covid-19 the decision was made to hold the Conference via electronic means with limited delegates present at Cootamundra.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council generously provided a great location and support to assist us for this very important meeting. Their welcome and assistance ensured the smooth running of our Conference.
In addition to our usual business, speakers included:
- Conference Welcome – Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council Mayor, Clr Abb McAlister & President Glen McAtear
- Welcome to Country – Peter Beath
- Conference Opening – Mark Morey, Secretary of Unions NSW
- Address – Linda Scott, President LGNSW
- Video Address – Greg Warren MP Shadow Minister for Local Government
We also had presentations from our sponsors, Local Government Super, EISS and Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers.
Our New Gen – Apprentice/Trainee & Mentor of the Year was also announced and Life Membership & Certificates of Merit endorsed.
As a thank you to the community of Cootamundra, the Union donated $500 to the Cootamundra Soup Kitchen which was presented to Renee Worboys by Graeme Kelly OAM, USU General Secretary and Glen McAtear, USU President.
