On 11 March the Federal Government announced a support package for the tourism and aviation sectors. We immediately wrote to Garuda seeking information about the impact this would have on its workforce, including commitments around rostering, stand downs and redundancies.

Garuda wrote back to us on Thursday, 18 March 2021. They say that current rosters will be maintained until 30 June but staff who are not rostered will be stood down without pay. They will review the rosters after 30 June.

Garuda says employees should contact the company if they want to use annual or long service leave while stood down.

The Federal Government’s ‘support’ package for aviation is a complete failure for workers at Garuda. You and your colleagues deserve to be supported to stay in the industry until flying returns to normal.

We know this is a very stressful time, do not hesitate to seek assistance if you need it. Organisations like Lifeline 131114 or Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 are available if needed.
