On 16 July 2024, your union supported members to take action addressing a long-standing issue with Woollahra Council. Several of our members in the Regulatory Team weren’t receiving their evening shift penalty while on leave, despite it being part of their employment conditions under the Local Government Award.
Over the course of several months, Council investigated this matter in conjunction with our members and this resulted in all impacted members receiving back pay for any evening shift penalty that they did not receive while they were on paid leave. For one member, this resulted in over $5,000 in back pay.
This is yet another example of the importance of being a member of your Union and the importance of standing up to enforce your rights and entitlements.
