At their recent half-yearly AGM, members raised serious concerns about the placement of the iPad cradles in trucks. The cradles were blocking reverse cameras and interfering with gear sticks and steering wheels. Members passed a motion for management to attend the yard and discuss the issue directly. Part of the motion was members would not leave the yard until this safety issue was addressed.
Management agreed to review the cradle setup and committed to a paid yard meeting on 18 June so the union could report back to members with a resolution.
In the week following the meeting, thanks to feedback from members and the work of USU delegates and HSRs, Council committed to a series of changes:
- Cradle adjustments completed by 7 July, with work scheduled on weekends to avoid disrupting services
- Riverstone depot vehicles were prioritised based on member feedback
- Council introduced additional operational support to improve communication and responsiveness to driver issues
- Telematics support officers have been relocated to be more accessible to staff
- Delegates and HSRs at Rooty Hill and Riverstone will have direct input into ensuring cradles are installed properly and safely.
By raising it together, Blacktown members made the job safer!
