USU members at Liverpool City Council’s Rose Street Depot have voted unanimously to endorse a new 36-hour week agreement.
The agreement addresses a key concern raised by members: that public holidays often fall on Mondays or Fridays, the same days many workers take their rostered day off (RDO). This has meant some workers were missing out on public holidays, despite working full-time hours.
Under the endorsed agreement, workers on RDOs will now be entitled to the public holidays they would otherwise have missed, ensuring they are not disadvantaged compared to other full-time staff.
In return, members agreed to continue meeting agreed service delivery standards.
This outcome follows months of discussions between Council, local delegates and the USU. It’s the result of ongoing efforts to ensure the 36-hour week arrangement works fairly for outdoor staff.
The next step is formal signing of the agreement by Council management and Acting USU General Secretary Steve Donley, with the aim of having the change in place for the next public holiday after the King’s Birthday.
