IMPORTANT UPDATE TO ALL USU MEMBERS EMPLOYED AT CENTRAL COAST COUNCIL REGARDING COUNCIL’S REPORTED FINANCIAL STATUS AND POSSIBLE IMPACTS ON YOUR EMPLOYMENT

Please be advised that your Union, the United Services Union, has been working tirelessly since the recent disclosure of the Council’s current financial status. The Union has been in constant discussions with Central Coast Council and relevant State Government authorities to understand the situation and protect the jobs of Central Coast Council workers.

Members should be reassured USU Officials and Delegates will be involved in multiple weekly meetings with Council to work through any issues that may arise. Also, the Union will be working with relevant State Government authorities, at the highest level, on an on-going basis.

We all know that we are in an unprecedented, difficult time. But it is not the time for Central Coast Council workers to be affected.
Central Coast Council workers form an essential part of community support and deliver a wide range of essential services to the vast Central Coast community.

You are at the frontline during national disasters, and in the aftermath, always the first to provide the support that is required. There is no more shining example of this than during the current pandemic.

Once investigations are completed the USU fully expects any individuals responsible for the reported financial concerns are held accountable. The USU will strongly advocate for, and will not accept any detrimental impacts on, the hard-working USU members at Central Coast Council.

Please be assured any changes proposed by Council over this period must be in accordance with the Local Government Award 2020.

The Award is not negotiable and the USU will ensure Council remains compliant to its obligations.

Therefore, until otherwise notified all members should consider their current position as unaffected, and your conditions of employment will continue following the Local Government (State) Award 2020.

If you are approached by Council regarding workplace changes due to these reported matters, members are advised to contact your local USU Delegate or me, Luke Hutchinson (USU Organiser) at 0419 761 323 or lhutchinson@usu.org.au

We wish to reiterate that your Union is always by your side throughout every step of these concerning developments at Central Coast Council. Being collective will be crucial in ensuring any impacts are minimised.
