Without positive influences of genuine mentors in the workplace, an Apprentice/Trainee award could not be held, so we have yet again celebrated and awarded the 2020 USU New Gen Committee Mentor of the Year to Erin Martin – Horticulturist, from Wollongong City Council.
While undertaking his key role in Council, Erin has selflessly continued to mentor and develop many apprentices over the years at Wollongong. Information gathered by her nominators truly support Erin being a commendable recipient with the following direct quotes from the nomination:
“Erin constantly provides support and guidance to junior and new members of staff. She is always willing to help whether it be technical job support or organisational guidance. She is admired by her peers due to her wide knowledge base and eagerness to help others.”
“She is extremely knowledgeable and is very forthcoming with answers to any questions or queries they may have concerning propagation techniques, general maintenance, administrative duties, or the general daily running of the nursery.”
“As an apprentice and new person on the block Erin has made me and all the other trainees and apprentice feel very welcome and she will go above and beyond to give you advice and any tasks that you may be doing at the time.”
