Fuel costs are rising — and we’re taking action

We’ve heard directly from members across local government about the impact rising fuel prices are having — both at work and at home.

In response, the United Services Union is preparing to file a new application in the Industrial Relations Commission to address the effects of the fuel crisis on local government workers.

The proposed claim includes practical measures such as:

  • Temporary increases to work-related fuel allowances
  • Reduced travel requirements and more flexible work arrangements
  • Protections to ensure workers do not lose income or hours due to fuel-related disruptions

We need your input

To support this case, we are asking members to complete a short survey.

It will take less than 2 minutes and will help us demonstrate:

  • how fuel costs are affecting workers
  • the impact on travel, work patterns and household budgets
  • the practical changes needed to support members

We’ve taken the next step

The United Services Union has now filed an application in the Industrial Relations Commission to address the impact of rising fuel costs on local government workers.

The claim seeks practical, temporary measures including:

  • Increased fuel-related allowances
  • Reduced travel requirements and more flexible work arrangements
  • Protections to ensure workers are not financially disadvantaged

This application is based on direct feedback from members across the state.

We will continue to update you as the matter progresses.
