On 11 March the Federal Government announced a support package for the tourism and aviation sectors. We immediately wrote to Rex seeking information about the impact this would have on its workforce, including commitments around rostering, stand downs and redundancies.
Rex wrote back to us on Wednesday, 11 March 2021. They said that they ‘will communicate with staff as the detail of the support package emerge’.
This isn’t good enough. JobKeeper ends on 28 March 2021. If you aren’t stood up and working, you won’t be earning an income.
The Federal Government’s ‘support’ package for aviation is a complete failure for workers at Rex. You and your colleagues deserve to be supported to stay in the industry until flying returns to normal.
Rex should be consulting with the USU/ASU to minimise the impact on our employees. If Rex worked with the USU/ASU we could explore ways to protect as many jobs as possible and to ensure that you have as many choices as possible once job keeper ends.
If you aren’t in the USU/ASU, now is the time to join at www.usu.org.au/join.
Pass on this bulletin to a colleague at Rex.
We know this is a very stressful time, do not hesitate to seek assistance if you need it. Organisations like Lifeline 131114 or Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 are available if needed.
