USU Member Alan MacBean recently had discussions with the USU Manager North Stephen Hughes and the Organiser Danielle Kelly recently after raising concerns about appropriate protective eyewear for his role when using a whipper snipper.
Alan sadly lost an eye after a horrible car accident when he was 30 years of age over two decades ago. During a meeting with Council, the Manager North put forward to Council that Alan meet with his Optometrist and see if they could recommend and supply him with suitable protective eyewear that was safe and that would provide Alan with the level of protection that made him feel comfortable when being required to operate a whipper snipper.
Council Manager Matt Brogan agreed and Allan and his USU Organiser attended the Optometrist appointment and new protective eyewear was ordered for Alan and paid for by Council.
Alan is very happy with the outcome and his new transition lense protective eyewear and is grateful for the assistance of the USU in this matter.
The USU wishes to acknowledge the actions of Manager Matt Brogan in supporting the Union’s recommendation without hesitation and with both empathy and understanding as supported by Council’s HR and GM.
