With negotiations for the new Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement now complete, attention has turned to refreshing and expanding the delegate team. The increase in membership across Parliamentary workplaces represents a fantastic opportunity to expand the USU’s presence and representation in such workplaces.
Parliament staff work in a wide variety of places from Parliament House with its different ministerial offices, to local electorate offices across metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW. Staff often work long hours and perform a wide variety of roles and tasks that are ever changing. This is compounded by the fact that job security is almost non-existent and dependent on election outcomes which are always unpredictable.
The new delegate team will work closely with their organiser Josh Polak to provide a voice to members through various consultative groups and we will work towards representing members during the upcoming classification review. The review was an outcome of the latest round of bargaining and will review the employment structure that staff are employed under. We hope that the review will be a useful tool in our push to improve staff pay and conditions. The new delegates will also ensure the USU is in a capable position for the next round of bargaining.
We look forward to working with the new team once it is finalised.
